I've spoken at Facebook, SXSWxEDU, Good Is The New Cool, the National Race Amity Conference, keynoted multiple student leadership conferences, and delivered the largest admissions information session in Yale's history.
Audiences of students, parents, and educators have heard my thoughts on:
- Social-emotional and moral development: How can parents and educators support kids to become better people in ways that are authentic and empowering - not moralizing and demeaning? I draw on my time studying SEL at Harvard and Yale, and building globally-recognized SEL programs, to offer vivid, actionable guidance on what does, and doesn't, work to help build caring kids.
- Youth leadership and activism: How can young people make a real difference, right now? How can adults help them build the empathy and agency needed to make a change - and get out of the way? What has this generation of youth activists learned from their forbears - and what's new and different? Whether it's inspiring young people to take action or adults to be allies, I draw on my years coaching thousands of youth activists in 100+ countries as Director of Programs at Peace First, one of the largest trainers & funders of youth social change agents worldwide, as well as my own experiences.
- Bullying and belonging: From my own experiences being bullied as a young kid, to building a nationwide organization of anti-bullying peer educators as a high school student, and working to prevent bullying on a systems level on the Board of the International Bullying Prevention Association, I've spoken to kids and adults about what we can all do to make our schools and communities places where everyone belongs - and where the bullying prevention space needs to grow and improve.
- Peace education: Peace sometimes feels like a relic from a bygone era - but it's more relevant than ever. I've spoken to peacebuilding communities and practitioners about how to translate age-old concepts and teachings into modern, relevant instruction for children and youth.
As an award-winning stand-up comic, I can promise to keep any audience engaged - and maybe even get them to giggle a time or two.
